If you caught my post yesterday then, you caught the facepalm-worthy story of how I killed my laptop, or at least the beginning. Well here’s the breakdown of what happened. And sure enough, already got some #socialmedia rolling on the situation. I love it!!
Check out Bowers &Wilkins. No better speakers in the world. But I’m not always at home, so I decided to check out their P5 headphones since I spend so much time sitting here or there working on that damn laptop. Sure enough, they’re totally awesome. No noise canceling, no crazy technological answers to locking out the world outside (which inevitably ends in dead batteries, and dead headphones on the road) just badass speakers inside really comfortable headphones. When you’ve got sound like this coming out noise canceling doesn’t matter.
Annnyyway….they come with a case, and that case has a little magnetic clasp on it. Somehow as I was packing up I let that flap flop over, at which point it quickly stuck to my MacBook Pro’s metal frame. If I’ve got my head wrapped around the inner workings of the computer I think it landed right on top of the location of the hard drive. The computer didn’t turn off right away, but when I next closed and opened it I got nothing. Rebooted and it’s stalling at BIOS, or firmware (I think that’s what apple calls BIOS.) It doesn’t strike me as a strong enough magnet to have done this, but it’s the only variable in this whole thing that I can stack up to the result, so as of now I think it’s the magnet. I haven’t tried any re-installs or anything yet (I’m on the road, don’t have my Snow Leopard disks) but like I said it doesn’t strike me as a strong enough magnet, so I’m interested. I’ll keep you updated. Any other thoughts? No uninstalled updates or anything like that, and let it run for almost a full day, but it wasn’t processing, something is def missing that it needs to boot from. *shrug* Oh high technology, you are a cruel mistress.
As a bonus B&W is on twitter. Makes me like the company even more to know they’re listening. Just watch out for those magnets ;o)
